devo is one of my favorite bands. because this song is their most recognizable track, it's the one that's often played during 80s weekends on the radio. despite this, i love it and it never gets old for me.

glassblowing class
i'd kill to be able to answer this question with some fantastical story describing a sweeping, romantic, long distance relationship with a gorgeous and sophisticated brit beau. unfortunately, the only long distance relationships i've had were online pen pals when i was a disgruntled, angsty youth. and one of them was from the uk. in high school, i used to have so many because i wasn't allowed to go out at all. so i'd haunt message boards and email online friends from the dinky webtv box that my father bought from an infomercial. does anyone remember webtv? basically, it was internet for poor people. haha. i loved it!

#1 rule: make sure it's a real one
i've been many relationships. though, they've oft been imaginary. so in terms of rules for maintaining a "healthy relationship," this rule is fundamental.

if all the world's a stage, and we're merely players, i'd be playing the part of howard beale from paddy chayefsky's network. i'd be a fanatical, mentally unstable, former journalist, now televangelist / newsman, urging the masses to cry out "i'm a human being, god dammit, my life has value... i want you to get up right now, go to the window, open it, stick your head out and yell, 'i'm as mad as hell, and i'm not going to take this anymore!'" but i'd most probably end up being cast as the highly talented, but undoubted neurotic and/or mad, diana christensen - 'television incarnate'. i just can relate to her more and the life of 'shrieking nothingness' that she lives each day... i also love all her lines in the screenplay, especially this one: "I was married for four years, and pretended to be happy; and I had six years of analysis, and pretended to be sane. My husband ran off with his boyfriend, and I had an affair with my analyst, who told me I was the worst lay he'd ever had. I can't tell you how many men have told me what a lousy lay I am. I apparently have a masculine temperament. I arouse quickly, consummate prematurely, and can't wait to get my clothes back on and get out of that bedroom. I seem to be inept at everything except my work. I'm goddamn good at my work and so I confine myself to that. All I want out of life is a 30 share and a 20 rating." sadly enough, i can identify. lol. network is a powerful and genius play.

plinky prompts me to relive a vacation, and so i will. ah, finally a prompt i can enjoy. what a coincidence since i'm coming up with ideas for a road trip with friends from high school. my most recent and best vacation taken in a long time was a trip to seattle last labor day weekend. my travel buddy and i also went to portland and vancouver since we were already on the west coast.

we primarily stayed in seattle with an engineering friend of hers and crashed at his apartment in lake city. he was a gourmet, finer-things-in-life kind of guy, so we always ate and drank well. on the first days in seattle, we saw pike place market, walked the boardwalk, ate alaskan wild salmon at anthony's, and took pics in front of the 1st starbucks. we took a day trip and drove to cannon beach in oregon, ate at fenouil in portland, and then walked the pearl in the midnight hours. back in seattle, we had dim sum in the international district, went to bumbershoot by the space needle, and then had drinks at the ninja bar and amber. we also took a day trip to vancouver, where we walked around granville and had a nice dinner at kalypso. oh, and i had geoduck sushi for the first time in seattle and saw the dark knight there, too. on the last day before our flight, i went thrift store shopping and then we had lunch at salumi where i, as my friends teased, "met the love of my life" over spicy ham and stinky cheese.

sorry for the trying-too-hard title, but i love this venue so much in large part to it being where i saw my first muse concert

the first time i went here was to see muse (black holes and revelations tour). i like that it's by city hall and that the building had a historic feel to it. i liked the second level seating. also, i thought the acoustics were great. and well, most importantly, i saw muse there and the show blew my mind away. i was forever changed (in a good way). so of course, i get all nostalgic and dreamy when i think of that venue and how i had such a good time there.
