    • My chin scar
      • My chin. I have this nasty scar from when I was in middle school. My family and I vacationed in Wimberley, where the rocks are especially slippery in the river. You can see where this is going. I was throwing my friend some goggles, and my hand slipped, and my chin slammed against the rock and boom goes the dynamite. Result: my lovely scar.

    • I'm turning into my parents
      • I have become a raging backseat driver. I get it from my mother: grunting, pointing and stuttering until the driver sees the branch he or she is about to run over. And I'm not necessarily happy about this trait. Neither is my husband.
However - my mother has been known for her incessant loyalty to those she loves. Like her, I have found myself breaking in my mother hen's wings, especially with my students.
This, unlike the raging backseat driver, is something I am incredibly proud of inheriting.

    • Reading 'Poisonwood Bible' opened my eyes
      • Kingsolver's novel is where my love affair with Africa began. I read it at least once a year and never get tired of it. I love the style of writing, the diction, the figurative language, and the characters. And I connect so much with Adah it's absolutely ridiculous.

    • My fear of bees
      • I've had this fear since I was little. All I have to do is hear the buzz and I freak. Perhaps the fear stems from my slightly allergic rea…
