If I only had the time, I'd read the classics.

I have been dabbling in it while the kids play at the park, but super-hot weather means we hide indoors. I leave the book in the car so I'll always have something to read, should the need arise. At home I read non-fiction. I have too much to think about without trying to identify with pretend people on a regular basis. I'm not bitter, just busy.

Hammer and chisel

The most useless thing in my house right now is my toolbag. It's sturdy and filled to the brim with all kinds of seemingly useful things. Yet it's useless to me.

I thought it would be fun to pull up the tile that has been concreted to my hearth for the past 70 years. Eight hours of hammering and chiseling has me convinced. The bag of goodies is useless, except for the creation of massive purple bruises all over my knuckles.

My Blackberry, however, is quite useful. One call to a contractor and the job is as good as done.
