    • If I could fly, I'd be a penguin
      • Ice cased Adelie penguins after a blizzard at Cape Denison / photograph by Frank Hurley

Well, initially, I thought penguin, because they're one of my top 3 favorite animals, they love to swim, they identify their mates by song, stay with them forever, the men stay at home with the babies, and they're extremely social! But then I also remembered that they live in ridiculously frigid climates, eat only fish - yuck!, and then regurgitate the fish to feed their young. So, I think I'll go with something tropical like a parrot. They may not be the brightest, but at least they can talk, and maybe I could belong to a pirate...that could be interesting...

    • I'll read 'Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix' one day
      • I have started reading this book at least 3 times but still haven't finished. And honestly it's because it's too big to carry on the train, and that's my most popular reading time. I kept saying as long as I read it before the movie came out, I'm good, but I'm over a year past that goal! Hopefully I'll get around to it one of these days so I can finish the series!

    • When it comes to the dating game, don't play it.
      • Seriously good advice from an old friend I never thought I'd be quoting.

If a guy thinks your "breaking the rules" just because you didn't follow the 3 day rule before calling, or because you aren't playing hard to get, he's not worth your time. I promise. Quality men will actually appreciate it if you show them that you like them...that way they don't have to figure it out themselves, and we all know that men like shortcuts. The "I want what I can't have guys" are always going to be chasing after the next best thing instead of you.

That's my soapbox speech...this coming from the single girl;)

    • I give the Snuggie a B-
      • Snuggie High Fashion

I do have a Snuggie. Funny enough, I got it last Christmas while it was all the rage, but had never seen the infomercial until after I got it. It was a gag gift from my best high school friend who likes to tease me for always being cold.

I must say, it's a good idea. I spend a lot of evenings watching TV while typing on my computer, and a blanket with sleeves is pretty much perfect for that. Watchouts-it's really long. And I'm 5'8". I have to hold it up like the train of a dress if I want to run to the kitchen and grab a glass of water. It's also really really static-y. It clings to everything, and while it's dragging across the floor, it picks up every little bit of dust from everywhere - it's kind of like a vacuum in that sense. Overall, I'd give it a B-.

    • I'm turning into my mother
      • The other day, I found myself folding the folds of my umbrella along the original creases, before wrapping the strap around to close it. A few weeks later, I took a black sweater out of the dryer that I had accidentally washed with a white towel, and spent no less than an hour picking off every piece of white fuzz I could see, until it looked like a shaved poodle. That was when I knew I had become my mom.

I've never been a total slob, but never in a million years did I think I'd someday be totally neurotic/borderline OCD about completely random things like umbrella creases and sweater fuzz. I really love my mom, good and bad, but I feel like I'm just a few years away from being afraid of online bill pay and locking my suitcase anytime I leave a hotel room.
