- Can't eat a surprise party.
-
I suffer from anxiety and panic disorders which make me so twitchy that I jump at loud noises. I need to know that something is happening with plenty of time to prepare myself for it. So, for instance, a surprise party would be a no-no, because it would catch me totally off guard with no chance to talk myself up to it. On the other hand, I love it when my boyfriend brings me surprise chocolate, or sweets, or any foodstuff really. Being able to eat the surprise makes it a lot less scary.

- European day dream.

Since I visited there on holiday when I was 13, I've wanted to go and live in Croatia. Blue skies, clear seas and white sands make it incredibly appealing after spending my life in Britain with near-constant rain and cloudy skies. The capital city of Croatia, Dubrovnik, is an old walled city, and everything is seething with history. Each stone feels like it has a thousand stories to tell.
Sadly, I am really very bad at learning languages. I would flounder terribly and be unable to convey anything to the local populace. I would also suffer in the heat, which would make me continuously sticky and uncomfortable.

- Doesn't take much to wind down.

Change out of the uniform. I really hate wearing clothes I'm not comfortable in and wouldn't be able to relax without changing. Then I'd check my phone, get a drink and a snack, and turn the computer on. Somewhere in there I'd give my boyfriend a hug and kiss, but that depends on when I first see him.

- Deadline - read it before it's too late.

'Deadline' by Mira Grant. It's the sequal to the fantastic 'Feed' by the same author. Set in a future which is ravaged by zombies, where having a pet dog is more or less unheard of (due to the risk of spontaneous amplification of Kellis-Amberlee, the virus that causes living things to become mindless, flesh eating monsters), but the common cold has been cured. Deadline picks up the story of the 'After the End Times' news team as Shaun Mason wrestles with faceless government corporations to find out what exactly is going on in the world - is there a chance that Kellis-Amberlee might not be 100% fatal? Might the CDC (Centre for Disease Control) not be as clean as they want to appear? Why was he stupid enough to get into bed with Becks?
This series of excellently written novels will take you from your living room chair to the future of America, riding on the back of a motorbike as it speeds away from a hoard of hungry, moaning, and worst of all, pursuing zombies. You'll get to know the characters as though they were good friends, and you'll forget your own name in place of the name Shaun Mason, Deadline's protagonist.
Pheonomenal first series from Mira Grant. Don't miss out.

- Pen or Keyboard?

I write all my notes on paper. I like to be able to write down the things which come to mind, and also include arrows linking things together, bullet points (which you can do on a computer but I have them at different indents with different icons). I like space in the margins to add in additional notes and scribble in smaller notes in line gaps. I am also a chronic doodler, and doodling is harder on a computer!
As for journal entries, essays, or any blocks of text, I prefer the pc, simply for ease of editing. I usually write things as they come to mind and then revise them into structurally sound sentences after, or rephrase or even remove a lot of what gets written.
