- I've won a few contests, sure.

I won two writing contests in elementary school. The first one I was in second grade. My prize was getting to read my essay in front of the whole school. The second one was in fifth grade. I got to attend a young author's convention and meet the authors of some children's books. It was informative and a lot of fun. I also won a spelling bee in sixth grade (though I lost at regionals, so I didn't get any sort of prize) and I won a position to attend Girl's State Arizona (which is a week-long leadership seminar that revolves around teaching girls [or boys, at Boy's State] about the US government - mostly at a state level.
My husband won an Xbox 360 in a raffle, though.

Group of nurses, Base Hospital #45
I've always been drawn to the medical field, honestly. First I wanted to be a doctor. Then I thought maybe a veterinarian. My dad convinced me that an anesthesiologist was the way to go for a while. Ultimately I ended up deciding that I want to be a nurse. Hopefully I'll be starting school to work towards my nursing degree this fall. My ultimate goal is to earn my Nurse Practitioner's license.

- The evolution of my name
-
Okay, so anyone who knows me now knows that I go by Shay. I've gone by Shay since my sophomore year of high school, when there were a total of four girls with the same name as me in my Spanish class.
My real name is Ashley. When I was a baby my mom called me "Ashelayle Ukulele." When I started school my name had been trimmed to "Ashelayle." By the time I was in junior high I had graduated to "Shelayle." Freshman year of high school saw that trimmed to "Shelay." And by my sophomore year my nickname, which was to become my primary name of introduction, had been cut down to just "Shay." And Shay I have been ever since.
The only people who still call my by my given name are certain members of my family and a handful of select friends who just cannot bring themselves to think of me with any other name. They get a free pass.
