    • Only in dreams
      • I apologize for no paragraph breaks, but I'm too lazy to edit it. So there.

So, I started off the dream at a modified floor hockey tournament. There were three 'arenas' one of which was a large ping pong table. I saw a lot of folks from High School there and they were very confused because I kept moving between games and couldn't sit still. After getting bored with the games I went to lunch, and much to my surprise Drew Barrymore and Justin Long came and sat down next to me. After talking for a while he said he was very depressed that he couldn't go to a show in LA he payed a million dollars for the best ticket in the house. So, I said, well, just give me the ticket, after fairly little thought, he did. Originally I was going to sell the ticket, but changed my mind and I flew to LA with my father who wanted to go along for the ride. I went to the show and noticed that there were quite a few actors there, most of which were in costume from their most popular movies. As I sat down I noticed I was sitting next to Anthony Hopkins. He asked me who I was, confused as to how someone he didn't know could have gotten such a good seat. I lied and said I was a consultant for young actors on the rise and I kept in the dark. Intrigued he invited me to his house for a drink after the show. We watched the show, which was bizarre and starred Ben Stiller. It seems to have been a Monty Pyton style comedy, but it's still a little fuzzy if it was actually funny. After the show, my father and I follow Anthony Hopkins home in the PT Cruiser we rented, and he took the most confusing route through the most dangerous parts of LA driving through most red lights and losing us a few times. But for some reason, instead of just dropping it we kept going. We finally got there. We went inside, grabbed a drink, and then he said, "This is all yours now, enjoy it." While we stared at him confused he suddenly jumped out the window. In a panic we ran, and the next day as we were getting ready to leave for home the cops showed up and questioned us. We stupidly lied, saying we weren't there when he jumped. The cops knew we were lying but couldn't prove it. They finally let us go, and we changed our flight plans. As we were getting ready to leave yet again the cops showed up and arrested my dad, even though they had no evidence. Turns out, they didn't even connect my father with Anthony Hopkins death, it was all a strange coincidence, in fact, they arrested my dad for the murder of no one. When I made this clear and made an argument that someone is in the morgue and it isn't us they released us. So we flew back to wherever we were. We meet Drew and Justin again, he wanted to know how the show went. Sadly for him though, Drew left him for me after the lunch. Which was all for naught as she left me for a blanket later on.

    • Bonnaroo: the perfect summer music spot
      • I wandered to Bonnaroo for 3 years; 2006, 2007 & 2008. Sadly this year I was unable to make it. Which is really quite disappointing, see, I can't imagine a music festival that isn't Bonnaroo. In the middle of the day there is not a spot within Centeroo more than 15 paces towards a show. Not only that, but whatever your musical taste you are going to find something, and late at night you can really get going with an eclectic mix of dance, electronica, hip hop or something completely different.

Now, music may be the main draw for most newcomers, but the veterans return for the atmosphere. Folks at Bonnaroo rock, plain and simple. Now maybe that's because people there are too high to get annoyed or angry, but hey, who really cares. I've had conversations witch complete strangers that I wouldn't have with most of my friends, it all just feels right. Everyone is there for a good time and no one wants to cause trouble (though some incidentally do, word of advice, if the cop says if you keep acting up we're throwing you on the ground again, don't yell, "fuck off you piss ant!").

It's kind of hard to truly describe Bonnaroo and why when I got there I instantly had a gigantic smile on my face, but I can tell you this much, I nearly skipped my sister's high school graduation this year to go. Honestly, it came down to a coin toss.

        Bonnaroo!!!!

    • 'Jurassic Park' deserves to be watched over and over
      • I'm not entirely sure why, but I can watch JP seemingly endlessly. Perhaps it is simply because it brings me back to my boyhood sense of wonder and curiosity, or maybe it is more complex. Either way I know the movie so well I've been known to drift off in the middle of the day watching it in my head.

Seeing the dinosaurs on screen brings out the great human trait of being absolutely astonished and fascinated in something beyond the thought of money or having credit. It's purely a moment of thinking, "this is amazing!"

Of course Jurassic Park is just one in a long history of movies that have warned us of the consequences of uninhibited scientific exploration. Something that truly must be taken seriously in this day. Though, that's the second half of the movie, which I like less, and perhaps that's why that message goes unattended to. We are consumed so much by amazement that we ignore the reality.

God, adulthood sucks, take me back to age 10 please.

    • Just keep rolling...
      • About a year ago, I showed up to a bowling alley about 20 minutes from my house on a random Wednesday night. As I remember I was pretty down about how things were working out for me at the time. Bowling has always been my go to game when I need to clear my head. My first game was rather mediocre. Threw a couple of strikes, but that was about the end of it. My second game started off much better. First frame, strike. Second frame, strike. Third frame, strike and so on. Once I got to the fifth frame I was battling with my brain. The most strikes I had ever thrown in a row prior was 5. Sixth frame, strike. Once I hit six I was in the zone. I had already beaten my personal best, so if I blew the next one it wasn't a big deal. Seventh frame, strike. Eighth frame, strike. Coming into the ninth frame I was getting nervous again. But, I still felt the ball real well. It was almost as if I was part of the ball, I could feel it rolling down the lane, curving slightly to the left, smashing the pins at just the right angle. Ninth frame, strike. At this point my nerves are nearly shot. Nine strikes in a row, only three away from a perfect game. And that's when I lost it. Tenth frame I threw a 6 followed by a miss.

I was so taken aback though that I didn't care. Nine strikes in a row, it was unbelievable. I sat down and looked at the scoreboard and just marveled, "did I really do that?" As I stared at the board it started to sink in. It occurred to me that I was destined not to throw a perfect game. Rather, I was meant to come so close but not finish. I needed to have something more to aspire to. If I'd have thrown a 300 I would have never needed to bowl again. To best the fates on a lucky game on a sad Wednesday night would have defeated the purpose of competition and determination. I know it may be a long time before I ever do better. In fact it may never happen. But I know this, on that night, I bowled my heart out, and the only thing that was able to stop me was my own self preservation.
