    • Reading 'Animal, Vegetable, Miracle: A Year of Food Life' opened my eyes
      • I rented this book from bookswim.com, like netflix but for books. It's really cool, saves a ton of money since I am not out buying books at B&N or Amazon, and the customer service at bookswim is awesome.

Because it's an amazing book! A family eats pretty much only what they can grow on their own organic farm or purchase from the organic farmer's around them...for ONE WHOLE YEAR! I am still blown away by that. It's really an attempt to see if they can do it, as well as I think to encourage others to eat organically, and locally. It really opened my eyes to the organic farmer's plight (what they have to do to get their organic items to the big grocery stores) as well as the importance of saving heirloom seeds (and not just tomatoes). This book really makes you think about what you are buying in the store and whether you should be able to buy it at this point in time...if it's winter in Minnesota should you really be buying that tomato? Is it even possible that it was grown in this hemisphere? Awesome book, totally opened my eyes, and the writing is fantastic. I swear you can taste every heirloom tomato when she describes them.

    • How I'd spend $1,000
      • Hm...so many things that I could do with an extra $1k! We need a new bed. That might be the first purchase that would come to mind. If not that, we also need a vacation.
