This monument may be moving to some, but it didn't speak to me at all.

Couldn't make this thing work. The lucky recipient of this year's white elephant thought it was for adding water to his watercolors. He was extremely disappointed (and somewhat grossed out) when I told him it's actual purpose. I should have kept my mouth shut. No amount of explaining to him that it had gone through the dishwasher several times would alter his feelings. He ended up passing it on to the first person who would take it. Probably ended up in someone's garden as a plant container!

Mad bus drivers take the turns at breakneck speeds. You feel like you will be tipping over the edge at any moment. Unfortunately, tragedies have occurred before, so that does fill your mind.

Our rehearsal dinner was in a tiny restaurant walking distance from Columbia University's campus. Only one of the priests, our white haired priest from Texas was attending. This somewhat fragile priest had just completed a period of rest that followed a nervous breakdown however had still agreed to fly to NYC to concelebrate at our wedding. The rest of us were newly minted undergraduates, and both sets of parents. During the meal, a diner from another table had created a commotion loud enough to be asked to leave. While she was being firmly escorted out by waiters, the woman broke away and threw herself at our elderly priest. She begged him to do something to help her. Our poor priest froze. He looked at her helplessly as she was dragged out and while we continued on with our festivities somewhat subdued, he grew even more silent. Naturally, he blamed himself for not doing anything though there was probably little he could have done. I had forgotten his guilty suffering until just now.
