- Six Flags over Georgia at Halloween isn't as fun as you'd think
-
When it comes to Halloween, Six Flags over Georgia just doesn't cut the mustard.
Having lived less than 15 minutes away from Busch Gardens, Williamsburg for three years, I kind of got a little spoiled to how an amusement park should be at Halloween. Actually, that's not true, since Kings Dominion also has a kick-ass Halloween thing going for it. Expecting the same thing, my wife and I went to Six Flags over Georgia to see how their Halloween stacked up. Let's just say closing your park at six on a Saturday is NEVER a good way to do a Halloween. The decorations were few and far between, and it seemed like the only effort they put into making it Halloween-y was changing up the shows to Halloween type stuff. Needless to say, we're never going back there for Halloween again.

- I'm on fire...or not.

Perhaps a stray graze on a lighter here or ....well, that's really about it. I prefer to stay away from situations where it's likely I'm going up in smoke and flame.
Even though right now I wish I could say that I was a Hollywood stuntman (you know, that one that's always stumbling around on fire, burning from head to toe) and that I'm constantly being engulfed in flames.

- Next time we're on vacation, best to go when the in-laws aren't in the same place
-
Just getting back from Myrtle Beach, what better timing!
Lesson Learned #1: Never EVER again will we go on vacation while extended family is in the same place. Most of our vacation was spent either napping with our 8 month old (which wasn't bad, since we can plan around the naps), OR spent waiting for my wife's family to get their act together to go out and do stuff. They took forever to get ready (1.5-2 hours), even though they knew that we had limited amounts of time in which to do stuff. Honestly, this didn't really surprise me either, since they're constantly late for family gatherings, but I was hoping for a little more courtesy.
Lesson Learned #2: Traveling with an 8 month old isn't bad, as long as she's asleep. If she wakes up and gets cranky, however, it's a whole different story. On the way there, she spent a good majority of the time asleep, and then we were able to keep her calm with some good ol' Yo Gabba Gabba. On the way back, though, nothing worked and she cried almost the entire way home. (Also could have something to do with her getting sick, thanks to said in-laws mentioned above).
Lesson Learned #3: Never stay at the Holiday Sands North again. Supposedly there's internet (as there's a DSL box in the room), but in both rooms there were no cords going into the box. The beds were hard, the pillows flat and non-fluffy, there was no sort of clothing storage available, and the appliances looked straight from the '70s. I guess for the money we spent we couldn't complain, but never again.
Besides that, we had an alright time. Our daughter seemed to enjoy the beach and the ocean, and she loved swimming in the pool. She also loved walking around Broadway at the Beach (she's very much a people baby; she smiles at everyone that walks by).
