- How I became a writer?
-
Prior to blogging saying I didn't enjoy or like writing was an understatement. Writing was something I hated and would do anything to avoid.
Growing up I never enjoyed writing and would do anything to get out of writing assignments in school. I have dyslexia and dysgraphia. Dysgraphia is a form of dyslexia that affects fine motors skills and the ability to write legibly. It was the actual process of transmitting ideas to paper that made writing so painful. Thanks to several elementary school teachers that ignored my learning disability and punished me for poor handwriting by the time I reached middle school I hated both school and writing.
In school I usually had read all the required books for English classes by October but my book reports were often late. Simply because I hated the process of putting thoughts on paper. I actually preferred an oral book report. My senior English teacher tried to convince be I was a good writer but I just couldn't believe.
In 2006, I was invited to become the editor for an education site and discovered I actually enjoyed writing. Oh I also discovered that I wasn't a bad writer either.

- My dream home
-
If money were no object what would my ideal home be like. Gee, I'm glad you asked. Okay so you didn't ask but Plinky did. My dream home or ideal home would have a man cave/home theater for the Big Guy, for me it would have a big kitchen, luxurious master bath and space for my art, music, etc. On the practical side the home would be energy-efficient.
A man cave/home theater for the Big Guy is a must. The man cave would have a large TV with surround sound. Also, it would need theater seating or gamer chairs big enough for the Big Guy. Oh yes, sound proofing for the man cave is a must.
My top three features would a spacious kitchen, luxurious bath and space for my art/music. A kitchen with new high-quality appliances and plenty of storage and prep space is a must. It would be really nice to have a walk-in pantry and yes it would be alphabetized and sorted by categories.
On the practical side my dream home would include several energy-saving features. It would have solar panels on the roof as well as a solar water heater.

- Your learning style
-
That is a very good question. Part of my specialization as an educator has included learning styles. The average teacher is either an auditory or visual learner who prefers highly structured formal educational settings. Well and then there is me. I'm certainly not the typical educator. My learning style is tactile/kinesthetic and I prefer a very informal non-structured environment. I learn best by reading instructions paired, visual demonstrations and hands on practice.
Currently, I'm learning to play the guitar. I'm using a combination of on-line video lessons and guitar method books. I started with just the method books. The 1st book was rather easy because I already read music and have learned to play other instruments. However the intermediate level book was more difficult and I had reached a road block after just a couple of lessons. With the on-line series I'm able to see/hear how to play something.

or how I relax after a stressful day
I have ADHD so relaxing can be a challenge even on the best of days. I have several strategies strategies I use for relaxing. My top three are family meal time, doing something I enjoy and and a calming environment.
Family meal time is a priority in our home. It is a chance to unwind, decompress and connect. I enjoy cooking and I use the time spent preparing meals to help me refocus from an often stressful day at work.
I try to take some time each evening to do something I enjoy. It might be family movie night or one of my many hobbies. My current favorite hobbies are painting, photography and playing the guitar.
Creating a calming environment is essential in controlling ADHD. At least a couple of before bedtime I need to slow things down and remove the days distractions. I do this by trying to calm things down around the house a couple of hours before bedtime. On really stressful days I also use candles and peaceful music.

- Old TV Shows I Miss
-
My top three old shows would be MacGyver, Red Green Show and Monk.
MacGyver was a fun action show. Mac could solve any problem with a piece of gum and string. I liked how he had creative solutions to get out of messes. The way Mike, from Burn Notice, solves problems is reminiscent of MacGyver.
Red Green was a low-budget Canadian show that aired on our local PBS affiliate. The series revolved around Red and his friends, a group of middle-aged guys, who hung out at the Possum Lodge. They came up with some of the funniest things.
I guess it was time for Monk to end but I wasn’t consulted in the decision. I’ve always liked mystery shows like Colombo and Diagnosis Murder. Monk was my favorite of this genre.
