- Joss sticks smell of CNY
-
Used to travel 2-3 hours to get to my mum's hometown during Chinese New Year and one of the things that hit us once we got down the car was how different it smelt.
Like old.
Like dusty.
Like musty.
Like rubbery.
Like yellowish.
Like warm.
Like kampung.
Like shiny watches.
Like grey jaded bus stops.
Like metal shutters.
Like lifeless air.
Then we'll step into the gloom of the shop house and the presence of joss sticks (and my grandfather ticking away with his abacus).
Couldn't help feeling the nostalgic churn in my stomach whenever I smell joss sticks burning. Couldn't help thinking how different things are now.

- Things I love taking pictures of:
-
Window panes - raindrops, reflections, looking out, looking in
Leaves - autumn, big ones, falling/fallen, soggy, dried, curled up, trampled on
Trees - tall, short, stumpy, overhanging, in a row, in a field
Sunlight - sunrise, sunset, morning, evening, long shadows, no shadows
Footprints - in the sand, in the mud, left behind, ahead of mine
Shoes - yours, mine, accompanied, unaccompanied, standing, sitting
Feet - bare, shod, painted nails, stretched out, happy, pointed
People - candid, sleeping, laughing, just as they are
Pets - when they make you love them even more than you think you do
Pencils and pens - just because
Whatever reflects what I love, what I think about, what I care to share. :)
Haven't been taking many photographs lately but will get back into it because I'm falling in love again with the things I've shut my eyes and heart to in the past year.
Looking back to God and at the wonderful things He's created; remembering the times I love, beginning to laugh again.

- Through That Narrow Lane
-
Around the corner as I am nearing home
when evening light shed its warmth,
the sound barrier, a white-grey
separating
the small lane / the highway
the noise / the dust
the buzz / the barks
then
the quiet leaves hang over
as I drive through that narrow lane
as if listening
as if welcoming
as if nodding
"you're almost home"
I let my car roll past
to an almost walking pace
to listen
to smile
to nod back
I'm home.

- No E No E!

Wow! I just saw two birds fly by my window, playing with winds, racing past buildings. Laughing, almost. And I saw joy from within, bursting through: “warm sun!” “crisp winds!” “cotton clouds” “light sky”.
A nod, a dip, a tilt, a turn. Nothing can top this! Nothing is this much fun!
But go back, go back. Sun’s going down.
Pink-gray clouds push across, saying goodnights, good days. Tonight’s coming soon. Tata. Gray-indigo clouds also roll by, solid mass, grunting goodnights.
Night’s coming. Tuck in warm, stay cosy. Last two pats on your hand.
Good night world. Good night.
PS: I was trying to describe the sunset and all the colour words had “e”! – orange, yellow, amber, red… purple, blues can’t be used either. Beige cream…!

- So Sad, Sid Stole Sweets
-
This is fun. :p "She sells seashells on the seashore" also comes to mind. Haha!
Here's mine:
Stinky shirt,
such smelly socks.
Secret smiles,
such sly small smiles.
Sticky sweets,
so speedily sneaked.
Sam saw, she SHOUTED,
"Sid stole sweets!"
