    <title>My first job: telephone market research</title>

  There were various dead-end part-time jobs prior to university, but the first job that amounted to anything like real wages was telephone market research interviewing. A great job for someone who hates talking to people they don&#39;t know, hates bothering people when they&#39;re busy, has no commitment to hit targets and, most of all, is nervous on the telephone. I was utterly dreadful - whilst everyone around me was hitting 20 or more completed interviews a day, I rarely climbed above five. I lasted a few days short of six months.
