There were various dead-end part-time jobs prior to university, but the first job that amounted to anything like real wages was telephone market research interviewing. A great job for someone who hates talking to people they don't know, hates bothering people when they're busy, has no commitment to hit targets and, most of all, is nervous on the telephone. I was utterly dreadful - whilst everyone around me was hitting 20 or more completed interviews a day, I rarely climbed above five. I lasted a few days short of six months.
