    • My Favorite Way to Start the Day
      • My favourite way to start the day is to wake up and fog a mirror with my breath to make sure that I am still alive.

Next, I will have my morning constitutional and, depending on the relative success, I will take a second one probably after my shower.

Maybe some of you would think that this is more of a routine way to start the day rather than a favourite way. But, when I think of the type of day that I would have if these things didn't happen, well, it definitely could not be my best day ever.

        And so it goes.

    • Scents that Evoke Memories
      • German food

Sometimes the things I smell in the morning remind me of what I ate the night before. I think everyone has played Dutch Oven during the daybreak hours at some point after a feast of egg salad, German food, Mac Donalds or even copious amounts of beer.

It may be occasionally raunchy, but doesn't everyone enjoy their own scent?

    • The Oldest Thing I Own
      • The oldest thing that I own is the scarring on my right hand from a farming accident when I was 18 months old. It's more cool than gruesome, you can't see it unless I am really tanned or I show it to you. I have all my fingers, but the incident made me ambidexterous. I am left handed to write, eat and wipe (not all at the same time mind you) and I throw, punch, swing, and golf from the right.

It is also my earliest memory, although my folks doubt me.

What did you think I was going to say ... something useful?

        Priceless.

    • Sunrise vs. Sunset
      • Sunset. Over a quiet lake on a summer night. Beer in hand. Maybe a campfire going, but no loud music, no jetskis, no boats.

    • My Real Age vs. the Age I Feel
      • I feel younger than I really am.

It is probably because when I was younger I felt older than I really was and then I made some lifestyle changes.

Simply put, for most of my working career I did copious amounts of overtime. Very dedicated employee, I was. And I was recognized for it too ... with more work. You know the saying, "if you want something done, give it to a busy person."

However, with the workaholic attitude came high blood pressure, excess weight and general lethargy. Then, predicably, came the first heart attack scare but this turned out to be a virus in my lungs that was squeezing my heart. Anti-imflammatories took care of that.

But, the incident started me thinking about life a bit more. I soon forgot my lesson, when I was given the challenge of leading a major bid campaign. This took many months and I abandoned some of the new habits I was trying to start: eating better, resting more, working out.

I soon digressed back to my more known ways of life. With that came a nagging pain in my chest and in my neck. Long story short, after several months of effort, we (I) lost the contract we were bidding on and it took almost a year after that for my health to return to normal. This meant changing my BP meds, being more dedicated to the gym, and seeing a cardiologist.

Good news, I lost my job but the heart doc said my heart was solid. So, forced with finding a new job gave me the impetus to change my work habits. I now have a slower paced job and have kept my good habits. As a result, I weigh less than I did since I was 20, have more energy and have never felt this good in a long time.

Now I just need time to blog more.

        So there you go.
