    • I'm on fire
      • I was bending neon. See, glass is wonderful stuff. If you heat it, it doesn't melt or evaporate, it just goes gooey. To make neon signage, you heat sections of the tube over a torch until it gets bendy... and then for about 30 seconds, it's as if you aren't holding a rigid glass rod anymore, it's like you are holding a piece of rubber hose.

So I was bending neon. And I was using the ribbon burner, which is pretty much a huge long ribbon of flame. And I was trying to make sure I was doing it right, so I kept getting close to the burner. Closer and closer and eventually, I realized that something was falling in front of me.

Those were burned hairs. See, my bangs were in front of the burner so my forehead wasn't feeling it yet, but my hair certainly was. It smelled AWFUL.

    • What my shoes say about me
      • Depending on the time of day, cycling nerd, nerd, or shoeless nerd.

If I don't need to wear any shoes, I won't. Even if I'm walking on gravel or whatnot.

I bike in cycling shoes that kinda look cyclist. They've got metal cleats on the bottom, so I kinda klump like a horse.

And otherwise, I'm sure that my shoes are perfectly unfashionable.

    • I bike to work to help the environment
      • If you consider how much oil is burned by cars, which comes from countries that actively hate us, which is going to eventually cause something …

    • The contents of my pockets...
      • Notice the lack of any sort of writing implements, personal care products, or weapons of mass destruction...

        Cellphone
I don't actually use it as a *phone* device as much as I use it as a data and navigation device. It's got GPS, so I can use it for directions whenever I want to walk, bike, or take transit somewhere. It's got a data plan and an SSH terminal so I can (and have) fixed problems with work from the middle of nowhere. And it's got a two-finger QWERTY keyboard so that I don't throw it out the window. I tend to only buy carpenter jeans or jeans with more than just the usual five pockets so that I can have it in a separate pocket.

        Keys
The part that's cute is that one of my best friends... who is pretty much me but female... and I realized we both had identical RSA tokens for logging into the LAN remotely on our keychains. I also have the remote for the apartment complex's gate on it because the car is parked and rarely used whereas I bike all the time.

        Wallet
Purchased in the London duty free over our honeymoon. It's a little bit bigger than a standard American wallet because it needs to hold European currency notes and I like it that way.

        Badge
So much more than a badge. It has a transit pass on the back, which helps with my car-lite lifestyle.
